Miki Hazard Beach

Contributing Writer

Miki grew up in Florida and felt skeptical (to say the least) when her parents announced their move to Vermont during her freshman year of college. She moved away a few times to escape the cold, but once she had children, nowhere else felt like home.

Miki is a divorced mom of two fabulous kiddos: a funny, outgoing son born in 2006 and a creative, talented daughter born in 2010. A few years back, she met and married the love of her life, and they (mostly) enjoy their adventures as a blended family together.

Miki loves to read on her deck, see movies at the drive-in, and sled down the hill in her parents’ backyard.

Miki holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in English and is thrilled to be writing something other than a contract, grant, or software manual.

Summer has degrees in English literature, visual arts, folklore, and education (clearly, making lucrative choices) and works with future secondary teachers. Along with some neighbors and her wife, she served on the Essex Pride Committee that planned the first pride in Essex Junction in 2023.

Her hobbies include crafting (cross stitching and making fascinators are her favorites), reading queer romance and YA, spontaneous kitchen dance parties, and watching ridiculous things on TV. Her family enjoys exploring the beautiful state and surrounding areas, and she always welcomes suggestions for family-friendly activities.

Meet Our Youth Team

Jett

Contributing Writer

Jett is a teen with a lot to say, but not enough people to say everything to. She loves reading, writing, watching movies, anime, and sleeping. She is very interested in Japanese culture and is striving to become fluent in Japanese. She hopes to one day live in Japan, whether that is for school or life, she does not know.

As far as goals go, Jett has them all. She doesn’t want to have a “normal” life. She wants to explore the world, write books, and help people. She doesn’t want to settle down and find a 9-5 job; it’s just not for her.

She is a very passionate individual who loves a little too hard and dreams a little too big, but that hasn’t stopped her yet. She can’t wait to see where her life takes her and where she ends up. But, for now, she’s getting her feet as an aspiring writer with Vermont Moms. She’s excited to educate parents on life as a teenager.
