Vermont Baby Food :: Sponsored Review & Giveaway- CLOSED

photo(39)When I was offered a chance to try out Vermont Baby on Ruby I jumped at the chance. Vermont Baby is a locally produced and owned baby food company that describes its brand as, “pure, organic, yum.” And “yum” it is.

I’ll start off by saying that I make all of Ruby’s baby food. I did this with my first child, and am committed to doing so with Ruby. Combinations of fruits and veggies make their way in to the grinder on a weekly basis. My freezer is stocked with colorful ice cube trays of healthy organic options for my daughter. However, I am not so die-hard that I don’t occasionally buy packaged foods for her, especially when I run out of ice cube bites or am on the run (which is often now that I have two kids). There is a wealth of products on the shelves at the store these days. What is lacking, is a Vermont made product. Enter Vermont Baby.

Their mission is “to provide families with baby food that tastes good, has local ingredients and that can be served “guilt free” even though it wasn’t made themselves.” And this statement couldn’t be any more true. I have no problems buying my daughter baby food if I know it is coming from a good place.

So, how does it taste? Firstly, I never feed my kids anything that I won’t try first. So for me, the meat baby food is not something I will try, it grosses me out…therefore I don’t feed it to Ruby. Fortunately for me Vermont Baby does not make any meat products. Instead there are a variety of yummy combos: beets and blueberries, sweet potato and peaches, squash and apples, and spinach and pears. Ruby enjoyed all of the combos. She wasn’t crazy about the beets and blueberries so I had my friend Shannon’s baby try it, and he loved it. I tried the beets and blueberries and I really enjoyed it. I kinda wanted to put it on a piece of crostini with a schmear of goat cheese. Normal, right? Anyway, what is great about all of these different flavors is the proportion of fruit and veggies in each combo. Vermont Baby gets it right. This has been one of my biggest challenges with making baby food. I either put in too many greens and not enough fruit, or I don’t puree properly. It’s nice that a company figures out the “math” for you.  And again, I’ll mention—the fruit and veggies that Vermont baby use are local! Get out of town?! (No pun intended). Since it’s peach and blueberry season, they will be out picking and making fresh batches, likely as I type this.
