Burlington VT Moms Blog and our local South Burlington Xfinity store are partnering again to bring our team and readers all the amazing new and upgraded family-friendly technology for your home! In preparation for this event, BVTMB ran a poll asking our readers what it is that they want to help run their wireless household?

This system includes security features – but that’s not all! Xfinity has made it possible for you to easily control lights, thermostats, cameras, and even lock-unlock doors remotely! 

•  24/7 professional monitoring that can be armed and disarmed remotely.
• Allows customers to access their home security and automation system at home through the touchscreen console on your TV screen through Xfinity or X1, or on the go through a web-based portal, or via the Xfinity Home app on a mobile device.
• Live video monitoring allows customers to see what is going on when they are away from home via live video streams from wireless cameras positioned in and outside the home.
• Ability to manage energy consumption by controlling lights and thermostat remotely.
• Ability to set up notifications to let you know when a door is opened. That’s right, you can know when your teenager is home and stays home!

With our busy schedules and family members coming and going, Xfinity Home offers peace of mind- and you can know that your kids are home and safe!

Kids Zone on X1:

This program on Xfinity and Xfinity On Demand is programmed to ensure that what your kids are watching is safe and appropriate. BVTMB moms know that each family is unique. So, Xfinity has taken this program to the next level by simplifying ways to customize your child’s viewing options with parental PINS, age controls, lock programs, and easy entry and exit into and out of Kids Zone.

Our South Burlington staff was amazing and so informative. I learned so much about what this system offers that I never would have guessed before. Here were my takeaways:

• An Xfinity X1 Voice Remote – a fun and easy way to search for TV networks, shows, movies, set DVR recordings, change the channel, get recommendations, navigate Xfinity On Demand and more, all with English or Spanish vocal commands… this is probably one of the coolest aspects of Xfinity X1. I had a blast trying out different searches and being surprised by all the different things Xfinity X1 could do!
• Specially tailored-for-TV apps – features such as YouTube, Pandora, sports updates, weather apps, and Netflix- and soon Prime Video!
• Integrated Common Sense Media ratings and reviews directly on the TV, helping parents determine what content is appropriate for different ages…another game changer!
  
•  Kids Zone, a safe and secure place for kids to independently explore their favorite content and discover new programming… This feature is amazing. Literally, all of my kiddos’ favorite television shows and movies are all on one screen. You can set up a parental code so that they CANNOT get out of this section. Love it!

Xfinity xFi Gateway and the Xfinity xFi App:

This is a game changer for parents! This easy to use system and app allow you to program and/or manually turn on/off individual devices. I cannot wait to get this up and running in our home! Sure, I am pretty tech savvy and have controls set on my kids’ devices – but to do it without the rigmarole of finding the device, charging it (you all know that’s mom’s job!) and updating settings is not the highlight of any parent’s day – get rid of all that and have all those answers at your fingertips!

Xfinity xFi features are organized into six sections:

• Overview – View your WiFi name/password and network activity, troubleshoot connection issues and more.
• People – Create user profiles and organize your devices by the people who use them.
• Devices – View all of the connected devices in your home and devices that have previously connected over the past six months.
• Network – View and change your WiFi name or password and network security settings, check the connection status of your xFi Gateway (and your Pods, if applicable), and access your Gateway’s advanced settings.
• More – Troubleshoot connectivity issues, find answers to frequently asked questions, view video tutorials and submit your feedback about xFi.
• Notification Center – View real-time notifications about your home network and manage your notification preferences.

Yes – sign me up!

Xfinity Mobile, Stream, and My Account:

Yep, we all know what it’s like to be out and about and find yourself with a free moment while waiting outside the pediatrician’s office or in-between meetings.  Xfinity seamlessly allows you to jump right into where you left your most recent TV binge or stay connected to the ever-changing happenings of the world.

• Xfinity Stream – Xfinity X1 customers can watch live TV and Xfinity On Demand on any device at home or on the go. If you’re an Xfinity X1 Cloud DVR customer, you can also stream or download your Cloud DVR recordings to your device and watch anywhere – again, imagine the possibilities!
• Xfinity Connect – check your Comcast.net email, send and receive text messages, make and receive voice calls, and check your Xfinity Voice message all in one place.

Download the app and access Xfinity hotspots within range. Stream, watch live, pin, surf, listen using anything – but – YOUR cell phone data!

• Enjoy Xfinity WiFi at no additional cost – it’s included with your Xfinity Internet service.

Donated phones can help low-income women/moms in Vermont apply for work and stay in touch with childcare, schools, and family. By donating one phone, you can give peace of mind to a mom wanting to stay in touch with her teenager, get a job and/or relieve a bit of stress on her budget! Free events are wonderful – but they are all the more enjoyable when you know you were able to help someone in need. Donate a phone at this event and make sure to ask your friends and loved ones for theirs as well!
