Why We Made this Selection and Background Knowledge

Julie: My husband does not ever stop talking about Die Hard the movie. It’s in his top 3 movies of all time. I did not know it was based on a book though until we started researching Christmas movies for this show.

Claire: I was always familiar with the debate of Die Hard being a Christmas movie, so when we started looking at Christmas movie/book combos I came across this one. I’ve never heard of the book, and it’s been a good like 15 years since I’ve seen the movie so, why not?

Overall Opinion of the Book

Julie: I like that it was short and nonstop action. I found it sort of hard to follow, particularly, the descriptions of the building and how he was getting certain places, the weapons, and explosives – I just wasn’t familiar with a lot of that terminology.

I thought the relationship between Kathi and Joe seemed very unrealistic. I thought Joe was going to kill himself after he killed the last of the foreign faction… since he’d basically failed his mission with her death.

Claire: It was very fast-paced. It is very different from what I normally read, but it wasn’t bad. There have been worse books I’ve read.

Overall Opinion of the Movie

Claire:  Lots of 80s hair. Not a bad movie. Glad I watched it since it had been so long. Loved the ending when the Sgt. shot the terrorist after he shared his story earlier.

Julie: Bruce Willis was a hottie. But, every time I’ve watched it I have a hard time getting into it. There are some funny lines. I guess I appreciate the movie for what it is but it’s not one of my favorites
