Creative Habitat Review and Giveaway: CLOSED

I love a good craft store. I could spend hours perusing the isles (sans kids of course) and dreaming up all my creative craft projects that I’m sure I will get to one day. I also love seeing the excitement on my daughter’s face as we hit isles designated for kid’s crafts. She lights up as she eagerly tries to grasp everything within grabbing distance and shove it into our cart.

So what do you get when you combine an amazing craft store that is locally owned and operated by a wonderful team of people? [typography font=”Delius Swash Caps” size=”18″ size_format=”px”]Creative Habitat!  [/typography]

This is a seriously wonderful store brimming with everything you could need for endless craft and DIY projects. They also have a great home decor section that have helped create an endless wish list for me and a custom framing center.

On top of all this, they offer some great crafting classes such as crocheting, knitting, painting and kid’s craft. Their kid’s craft classes are on each Saturday from 1:00-3:00. For a minimal cost (around $3) you will receive all the supplies you need to make an adorable craft that your child will take home with them at the end of the class!

Games are our family’s thing. “Family Night” generally consists of games and some sort of food that is considered bad for you. We love card games and games of chance, especially. My boys and my husband are very mathematical. They think about numbers often and enjoy doing it! I knew they would love this new game, “Tenzi”. So on a cold night during Christmas break, we got out the hot cocoa and marshmallows and whipped cream and candy canes and settled in for a fun game.
The instructions were simple and we all caught on really quickly. We played round after round racing as fast as we could to be the winner. The main way we played was to all roll our dice at the same time. We would each then choose which number we would go for. Once chosen, we would go into super fast mode, rolling and collecting our numbers as fast as we could. Dice were flying everywhere, everyone was laughing and we were on the edge of our seats to see who would roll their numbers first! What I loved about this game is that it can be enjoyed by all ages. There aren’t many games that can keep the attention of a 35 year old boy (cross out boy) man and a 7 year old boy!
There were a few different ways to play listed in the directions. We also had fun playing a version where if someone else rolled the number you were going for, you could steal their dice! This led to some pretty wild moments! Might I suggest that if playing this version, you don’t have drinks sitting around the table? Don’t ask how I know. Just remember that hot chocolate is hot and it stains.
The boys really enjoyed each taking a turn to make their own version of the game. I loved that given the simple idea of the game, roll as many of the same number as quickly as you can, they were then able to be creative and imagine up a whole new way to play! Momma loved that they were playing around with numbers and patterns without really knowing it and they loved just plain having fun!
Tenzi is fun. Period! Whether you are looking for a fun new family night game or a game to play at your next party with friends, it really is a great game for everyone!
Now for the fun part: Creative Habitat is giving away TWO games to TWO different winners of this giveaway!

  1. I just recently heard about Creative Habitat from friends. I’ll have to come over and check it out one of these days! Also thanks for the review of Tenzi – always looking for new games. I just got Carcassonne for Christmas and we love it! My husband and I can play it and have a blast and we can also play a slightly modified version with our 4 and 6 year olds. Hmm… with the games above, – either looks great, but would probably go Forbidden Island as we have may games for the younger age group.

  2. We would love the Forbidden Island game. 🙂 Thank you for the giveaway! I spend a lot of time at Creative Habitat as a childcare provider!! 😀

  3. I’m amused by “isles” – I think you mean aisles… although I have definitely felt like I am lost in an island of craftiness at the craft store!

My son is only 2, and we don’t like in BVT (yet), so I am not going to enter, but it’s a fun giveaway!
