We are thrilled to tell you about an amazing FREE event that Xfinity is hosting specially for the BVTMB team and our readers!
{Disclaimer: We’re working with Xfinity to bring you this post, however, the opinions are all our own!}
My family currently uses Xfinity for internet and home phone {BVTMB also uses Xfinity at our office!}. We use a dish provider for our television. We have been using dish for the last 15 months since we moved to Williston, basically because the previous owners used it and liked it. There are some things about the service I like, but a lot of things I’m not super impressed about, but why fix something that isn’t broken, right? Well, Xfinity invited Tasha and I to their Xfinity Store in South Burlington to talk about an event {this one!} they wanted to do for our readers and my mind was blown.
What should have been us pitching Xfinity about our advertising packages turned into them showing us everything that Xfinity X1 can offer families. Spoiler alert: it’s a TON! My favorite things were the Xfinity Remote with Voice Control, On Demand (this is something I have sorely missed when we used Comcast before X1) and the Kid Zone. The Kid Zone is really awesome. The Kid Zone alone made me come home and tell my husband that he had to pick up the phone when Xfinity called to talk about switching service. We are now in the middle of doing just that! Read on to see why.
Xfinity X1:
The X1 platform is an Entertainment Operating System that gives Xfinity TV customers an interactive TV experience. You can easily find and watch shows and movies in seconds from TV listings, DVR recordings, personal favorites and Xfinity On Demand.
Features of X1:
- An Xfinity Remote with Voice Control – a fun and easy way to search for networks, shows and movies, set DVR recordings, change the channel, get recommendations, navigate Xfinity On Demand and more, all with English or Spanish vocal commands… this is probably one of the coolest aspects of X1. I had a blast trying out different searches and being surprised by all the different things X1 could do!
- Specially tailored-for-TV apps – Specially tailored-for-TV features such as customized social networking, music, radio, sports, weather apps, and now the entire Netflix catalog.
- Integrated Common Sense Media ratings and reviews directly onto the TV, helping parents determine what content is appropriate for different ages… totally key when you have kiddos in the house.
- Offers Kids Zone, a safe and secure place for kids to independently explore their favorite content and discover new programming… This feature is amazing. Literally all of my kiddos’ favorite television and movies are all in one screen. You can set up a parental code so that they CANNOT get out of this section. I KNOW it works because while we were at the Xfinity Store, we accidentally put in the incorrect code one too many times and were locked in the Kid Zone for an hour! My one year old LOVES remotes and he almost ordered porn the other day…no joke! I was sold as soon as they showed me this. Our current service, has nothing like it.
- Customers with the X1 DVR with cloud technology can stream their recordings and live television directly to their devices – great for setting up a second screen for your kids… oh my gosh, can you think of the possibilities?!
Xfinity Home:
Xfinity Home is Comcast’s home security, control and energy management platform that allows customers to stay connected to their home while on-the-go through the use of an interactive Web portal, mobile devices and the free Xfinity Home app.
Features of Xfinity Home:
My caveat for this section is that although home security didn’t get me as excited as the Kid Zone or DVR with cloud technology, I know that my husband thinks these features are really awesome. I’m up there saying can you think of the possibilities about the DVR and that’s his response for the following…
- 24/7 professional monitoring that can be armed and disarmed remotely.
- Allows customers to access their home security and automation system at home through the touch screen console or X1, or on the go through a Web-based portal or the Xfinity Home app on a mobile device.
- Live video monitoring allows customers to see what is going on when they are away from home via live video streams from wireless cameras positioned in and outside the home.
- Ability to manage energy consumption by controlling lights and thermostat remotely.
- Ability to set up notifications to let you know when a door is opened.
Xfinity Mobile Apps:
Comcast offers its customers free downloadable apps so you can get the most popular entertainment and communications services while on the go no matter where you are. These apps include:
- Xfinity Stream – Xfinity TV customers can watch live TV and XFINITY On Demand on any device at home or on the go. If you’re an X1 Cloud DVR customer, you can also stream or download your Cloud DVR recordings to your device and watch anywhere… again imagine the possibilities!
- Xfinity Remote – allows you to control your TV with your devices… one remote for everything?!
- Xfinity Home – allows you to manage and monitor your home security and control remotely.
- Xfinity WiFi – shows a map of Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots available in your area… I need this like it’s my job. Oh wait, I need it because of my job. I use so much data right now.
- xFi – lets you personalize and control your home network. You can set up your home WiFi and be online in minutes, find your WiFi password, know who’s online, troubleshoot issues, even pause WiFi access during dinner time.
- Xfinity Connect – check your Comcast.net email, send and receive text messages, make and receive Voice calls and check your XFINITY voicemail all in one place. This app also lets you answer your home phone calls and forward calls from your home phone to your iPhone… we have a home phone but are rarely ever home. They demonstrated if for me in the store and it really intrigues me.

Hey Josilynadams! This was such a good read. I just started using Xfinity around six months ago and I’m more than happy with its performance. It beats the provider we were using before by miles. My family is absolutely crazy about Xfinity On Demand™ as it lets us catch on all the TV shows we miss out on due to our hectic schedules. We have the subscribed to the HD PREFERRED EXTRA XF TRIPLE PLAY which gives us access to over 200 channels and a download speed of 200 Mbps which is surprisingly consistent all the time. My job requires me to make a lot of out of state calls and the package allows me to do so free of cost. I’d recommend it to all people looking for hassle-free connections.
