Congo Luzingu Festival and Independence Day Celebration
August 15 is the Independence Day of the Republic of Congo. For the past three years, the community of people from the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) living in Vermont has celebrated this day. This year we are hosting Congo Luzingu festival, a celebration of the history, the arts, the foods, the sculptures, the languages, the poetry, the clothing styles, the music and the dances of people from the Republic of Congo. This event is featuring NGOMA ZA KONGO, a group of Congolese traditional dancers from New York and LES SAPEURS DE BURLINGTON, a parade clothing styles used to resist against the colonizers. Come and celebrate with us.
This event is co-funded and sponsored by Vermont community Foundation, Fletcher Free Library, Burlington Community Health Center, Association of Africans Living in Vermont, CCTV, Peace and Justice Center and many more.
