Why We Made this Selection and Background Knowledge

Julie:  I was seeing a lot of friends and accounts I follow posting about it. They released 3 episodes and then only one episode a week after that and my friends were raging about it.

Claire: I’ve seen a lot of talk about it on social media, but didn’t watch it since I knew there was a boom about it and figured we’d cover it on an episode.

Before you say which you liked better, did you read the book or listen to the audiobook… because it matters.

Overall Opinion of the Book

Julie:  I liked it. I feel like it sort of fizzled at the end. I was hoping for a more confrontational climax over the Macy reveal.

Claire: Meh. It wasn’t bad. Mostly I was frustrated with Stephen and everything he was doing. And then with Lucy and how she kept going back to him. I guess I just feel like that I’m older than the characters in the book and they are doing all these dumb things, I just feel like yelling at them haha. I would say the part I liked best was her making up with her mom.

Overall Opinion of the Show

Julie: I like the show. I like that they incorporated Fleetwood Mac covers in the soundtrack. The girls seem to be dressing for today. (High-waisted jeans) the hair and the makeup are definitely not circa 2007. I’d like to see scrunched hair with flattened bangs.

Claire: I liked the show. I liked how they left out the eating disorder stuff, it was just way too present in the book and I was tired of hearing about it because Lucy obviously didn’t want to do anything about it. I also liked how Lucy slept with other guys (the bartender). Definitely loved the soundtrack.
