Why We Made this Selection and Background Knowledge
Julie: I actually read the book just before the movie came out and watched the movie when it was available for rental. That was about 8 years ago at this point so I didn’t remember a ton about either aside from the basic premise.
I’ve always been intrigued by True Crime, so the buzz around this book when it came out and the relation to the Lacy Peterson case is what initially caught my attention.
Claire: Very little knowledge. I’ve heard of both the book and movie and heard good things about both. Never read or watched them, but the book has been on my TBR for a while now.
Before you say which you liked better, did you read the book or listen to the audiobook… because it matters.

Overall Opinion of the Book
Julie: Overall, really good book… but long (17ish hrs cut to 2.5 hours) Not really any plot holes which is tough with all the moving parts. Prob one of the best books we’ve done.
The crazy wife trope seems like something we don’t see quite as much lately.
Interestingly to note, the author wrote the screenplay – this made me assume the movie would stay pretty true to the book.
Claire: Good book. definitely long, but not so long that it made me not want to listen. Definitely surprised
Overall Opinion of the Show
Julie: Overall, it’s a little bit long and slow. It was good. However, I bet it was excellent for people who hadn’t read the book and had no idea the twists that were coming.
Claire: I like the little things they did to bring the movie up to date. Love the robot dog.
I feel like Rosamund Pike deserves an Oscar for this. So I went online and found out she was nominated for an Oscar and many other awards for her role in Gone Girl. She only won a Saturn Award though.
