Lead poisoning is 100% preventable and the Burlington Lead Program is here to help. The Burlington Lead Program is a FREE resource to families, rental property owners, and home daycare center owners in Burlington and Winooski.
The Burlington Lead Program works to reduce lead hazards in homes for free. They enroll owner occupied homes, rental properties, and home daycare centers to make them safe from lead based paint. Enrollment is based on the age of the home, location in Burlington or Winooski, and available for low to moderate income households. A combination of grants and interest-free deferred loans are provided by BLP for the payment of the lead hazards reduction work. All property owners are eligible to earn 100% forgiveness on the grant and loan if certain criterion is met. When properties are enrolled in their program there are no out of pocket costs for the owners.
In addition to enrollment , we have a variety of free services that anyone is eligible for. They include:
Site Visits at homes to identify potential lead hazards
Renovation Technical Assistance for families looking to do work on their older homes
HEPA Vacuum loans
Soil Sampling for lead safe gardening
Blood lead testing for children
Essential Maintenance Classes for compliance with the Vermont Lead Law
For families whom English is not their first language, they work with interpreters and have some translated documents so they can access all aspects of their program.
The Burlington Lead Program, part of the City of Burlington’s Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO), is a HUD funded program that provides technical and financial assistance regarding lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards to residents of Burlington and Winooski.
