Ultimate Summer Fun for Kids in Milton, Vermont

1

When we moved to Milton, everyone seemed to have an opinion about the town. Many implied that the town was not pretty, safe, or enjoyable. Now, five years later, I can confidently say to those people… you were wrong! Milton is a great place to live and offers many kid-friendly activities. And the truth is, summer in Milton is just fantastic!

If you live in the area or are thinking of moving here, I hope your family enjoys my list of the ultimate summer fun for kids in Milton!

Bombardier Park West

What I like: this playground is smaller than its neighboring park (Bombardier Park East), making it more accessible for younger kids. I also like how I can bring the kids to the library and walk to this park right after. It feels very efficient and it’s great to not have to get the kids back into the car to go to a new location!

Lamoille River Walk

What I like: this is a short and sweet walk that is very kid-friendly. There is a cute little bridge that is always popular with my kids!

Meadowbrook Acres Family Farm

What I like: we’re planning our first visit to this farm this summer and I’m so excited. I was instantly sold after reading the following line from their website: “Our ladies love visitors.”

  • Dairy farm and sugarbush
  • Tour the farm and visit the cows (Wednesdays and weekends, schedule here)

Milton Public Library

What I like: everything. Seriously! I can’t say enough about libraries and I get the feeling that many moms don’t utilize them enough. Fair warning, though: when you leave Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site outside in the rain and find it three days later soggy and covered in mud, you do have to pay for it (oops).

Milton Town Forest

What I like: this is a beautiful trail! Sometimes it’s rocky, sometimes it’s wide open, and sometimes it’s marshy. Hikers have trail options, which I really like. Beware though: parking can be tricky on the weekends. This is one of my favorite spots for summer fun for kids in Milton.

River Street Park

What I like: I like to grab some bagels across the street at Huddy’s and picnic here with the kids on a sunny morning. (I can’t help it… it’s the New Yorker in me.)

  • ADA accessible
  • Fishing
  • Parking

  • Views of the Lamoille River

Sand Bar State Park

What I like: I don’t just like Sand Bar State Park, I love, love, love it! That’s why this spot is my favorite for summer fun for kids in Milton. The shallow water, long beach, and shady areas make this park great for kids. Watch out for school buses on weekdays, though. You might find yourself in the middle of a school field trip and cornered by a 12-year-old who’s very interested in your twin babies.

What I like: this farm is very friendly! My kids (like many) absolutely love farm animals so this one is always a hit.

  • Petting farm (goats, chickens, ducks, turtles, bunnies, miniature donkeys, sheep, and lots of miniature horses… even one horse that’s only 20 inches high!)
  • Open every day

Trails at Arrowhead Golf Course

What I like: Now, I haven’t actually visited this spot but it’s such a great idea! I plan to check out this one soon. My only concern is that my husband will “get lost” during the hike and I’ll find him putting at Hole #7 on the golf course.

  • Hiking (4 trails surrounding the golf course, each approximately 3 miles)
  • Mountain biking
