It’s in the Details: Swift House Inn Review

2

Back in early January my husband and I celebrated 6 years of marriage. We always try to plan a little getaway (if finances allow), and I have come to appreciate this “break” even more so now that we have children! It is so nice to take a night or two and escape together and allow ourselves to reconnect and recharge.

This year we knew we needed to head somewhere close by as we only had one night that we could spare. We had visited Middlebury back in summer and fell in love with its quaint shops and beautiful inns, so I decided that this was the perfect place to spend our mini-vacay. As I researched places to stay I came across some great reviews for the Swift House Inn and as I browsed their website I fell in love with their grounds and rooms.

The Swift House Inn did not disappoint. As we pulled up, dusk was settling in, and the large white house was alit with lights in the windows and beautiful wreathes hanging from the doors. It looked so warm and inviting, especially considering it was one of the coldest nights of the year thus far with quite a bit of snow on the ground.

The Staff

The staff was just as warm and inviting as they showed us around the inn. The charm of this place is found in the small details; the cookie jar always full of cookies, the coffee maker downstairs where you can make yourself any type of coffee you like, the chocolate candies on the nightstand in our room, the wreathes hanging from the windows, and the beautiful decor punctuated by old world charm.

The Room

Our room (the swift room) was absolutely lovely with a comfy queen bed, cozy fireplace and an amazing jacuzzi tub. Let’s be honest here, I definitely took three baths by the time we had left the next day 🙂

The Food

And then there was the breakfast…oh the delicious breakfast! This complimentary meal far exceeded my expectations! Usually when I see a complimentary breakfast as part of a stay, I assume that it will be nothing fancy; maybe a table filled with some fruit, cereal, bagels, and a few juices. This breakfast was far more than that! First, it is in the inn’s lovely dining rooms filled with beautiful wood wainscoting and a fireplace…a pretty nice backdrop for your meal!

There was a table of food in the center with fruit and other foods, but you were also waited on by a staff member of the inn and were able to choose from a delicious list of hot foods such as maple bacon, pancakes, eggs, biscuits, potatoes, souffles, etc. All I can say is it was absolutely delicious!

We’ve also been told that their on-site restaurant, Jessica’s, is just as amazing, but it was unfortunately closed the night we were there (it has limited hours during winter). We are already planning our next visit back this summer, and we will definitely be checking it out!

While this inn is great for a romantic stay for two, it is also a great place for families, as they have larger rooms in the carriage house that can accommodate more people. We also learned they have sledding equipment for guests that can be used at any time, which would be perfect for a family fun day in the snow!

With its fabulous guest service, wonderful attention to detail, and beautiful lodgings and grounds, the Swift Inn is sure to please! So if you are in need of a mini-getaway that is close to Burlington, look no further than the Swift House Inn in Middlebury!
