Overall Opinion of the Book
Claire: Nothing really stood out to me. I was just mostly shocked about how Americans were so different from the British. Was this true? Was I not paying attention in history class?
Julie: It was hard to get into but by the end, I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know who Nan picked.
Overall Opinion of the Show
Julie: I really liked it. it’s hard to view it on its own without comparing it to Bridgerton – sets, costumes, music. I feel like every episode has a very different feel but I especially thought the cinematography in the Christmas episode and the wedding episode were beautiful.
Claire: I have just odd thoughts. At first I was getting Queen Charlotte vibes with the brighter colors and mention about race in the first or second episode. Then the weird camera angles turned me off. There were things in the shows I didn’t think they would have had back then like the merry-go-rounds at the end.
Before you say which you liked better, did you read the book or listen to the audiobook… because it matters.
Claire: I listened to it. Nothing too overwhelming, but was hard to follow at times. I actually had to restart it at one point.
Julie: I read a paperback.
Which was better?
Julie: The show
Claire: The show by a little at first. But by the last episode in season one, a lot.
