Ten Perfect Beach Reads

ten perfect books for the beach

I’m a reader. I. Am. A. Reader. I love to read. I make time to read. For me making time to read is the same as making time for date nights and exercise. If I don’t make the time I slowly begin to lose my mind. Seriously!

I have read so many books that sometimes I get halfway through a book and realize I’ve already read it. Does this happen to other people?

As the school year draws to a close my mind begins to wonder towards beach days and beach reads. I’ve put together a list of five great reads. I limited this to five because honestly I could go on and on.  Okay Ten. Ten books. Ten fantastic books that  have stuck with me over the years. These are my friends. These books, they are special to me. Do you have books that are  special to you?

10} The Bean Trees: A Novel Barbara Kingsolver

I first read this book and high school it introduced me to Barbara Kingsolver. Its sweet and funny and always leaves me a little sad and a little hopeful.

9}  Still Alice Lisa Genova

Ugh this book. I loved reading it and it made me really connect with the characters. It’s a tough subject matter that I felt like was handled with grace.

8}  Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster Jon Krakauer

I read this book only because my husband left it lying around and I was bored. It was amazing. I’m so glad it was lying around. Occasionally I want to read something that isn’t fiction. This fit the bill.

great books for the beach

7} Bossypants Tina Fey

So Funny I cried. Enough said.

6} Life of Pi Yann Martel

This is a book everyone thought i’d like. Something in me fought against reading it. Then it was assigned for book club and I FINALLY read it. I am so glad I did. It is beautiful.

5} The Age of Miracles: A Novel Karen Thompson Walker

I LOVE the world is ending books. This is such a different take on something so simple. I dreamt about this book for weeks after it was finished.

4} A Discovery of Witches: A Novel (All Souls Trilogy) Deborah Harkness

I also love witches and magic and vampires. A fun quick read that happens to be a trilogy. Who doesn’t love getting to continue on with characters you really like?

3} The Pillars of the Earth Ken Follett

This is NOT a quick read. In fact the size of the book is pretty overwhelming. However once you get in you stay in. The history ( fake or not) is fascinating and the characters engrossing.

2} To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee

Read it again.

1} Summer Sisters: A Novel Judy Blume

Because Judy Blume written for adults what’s not to love.

I hope this helps get you started on a summer of making a little time to read. Have you read any of these? I’m always looking for the next great book. Do you have any that have stuck with you?

  1. A friend was talking about her book club and I made some whiney comment about always wanting to join a book club and she invited me to join. Five years latter and i love having new and old books “assigned” each month.
