Does an Elf on the Shelf visit your house? I’m going to tell you right now that whether you’re an elf novice or a master elf-er, you need my Elf on the Shelf Planning Calendar. Let me tell you why.

Elf on the Shelf Planning Calendar

My family started the Elf on the Shelf tradition when our daughter was 5 years old. She’s now 18, but our sons are 4 and 1. We’ve kept the elf magic alive in our home for many years. Over the years, our collection of elves has grown! We now have three, as we chose to add an elf for each child in hopes they’d want their individual elf for a keepsake or to use with their own children.

Our elves arrive on December 1st. We have “Jingle,” “Fly,” and a nameless elf. Our youngest may name his elf once he’s older. Despite being nameless, the elf will join in all the Christmas games and antics. He just won’t sign his name. 😉

I’ll be honest, last year our elves just moved around the house and rarely caused trouble. With a newborn, a 3-year-old, and a 17-year-old, I felt moving the elf was too much work. Moving the elves around in an extended game of Hide and Go Seek was enough to keep our three-year-old interested, and our 17-year-old mildly entertained. We were in survival mode and felt it was okay to let some things slide. We were just trying to make it to the big day.

I enjoy the magic our elves bring to the Christmas season, and I also recognize that elves create a lot of planning, prepping, and setting up for parents.

Come January, I was spending hours breastfeeding our third baby. I had a lot of time sitting and some feelings of disappointment about my lackluster elves. I wanted to try to make a little more magic in the following year. I decided being prepared would re-ignite the magic. I made a 2025 Elf on the Shelf Planning Calendar, complete with 24 ideas and a supply list. Let me share it with you!

Not into Elf on the Shelf? You’re not alone. There are plenty of alternatives. Julie has an Advent Angel, and Danielle just doesn’t have one.

Do you have an Elf on the Shelf? What traditions do you have for the holidays? I hope my Elf on the Shelf planning calendar helps you enjoy the magic of the season without the stress!
