We both love the idea of capturing those important moments in someone’s life. We ourselves are first cousins and are lucky enough to have family who took the time to photograph us growing up, professional and candid. Because of that, we know the importance of continuing to photograph within our family, but more importantly, helping others by photographing them. Vermont is such a beautiful place to get married, raise a family, live and experience life. Our inspiration is the connection between families, couples and children that we capture behind the camera, and our goal is to create pieces of art that best represents our clients’ personality.

 

 

Our tip for preparing for a session with us, is to meet with us (at our studio if possible) prior to the session. Our goal is to create images that best represent the client. We want to get to know who we are photographing; their likes, dislikes, and expectations for their session. We customize every session based on the client’s wishes, within our creative focus and style. It is very easy to communicate only through social media/texting/email, but we really encourage meeting face to face, so everyone is comfortable and best prepared. With that, we want to educate our clients on the importance of printing and displaying their final images and finished products in their home as well.

 

 

We have been photographing professionally for seven years now. We had both been photographing on our own for years before, but came together seven years ago to form our business. We started out photographing landscapes, then seniors and weddings, then we just continued to grow into family sessions, maternity, and newborns. We honestly love the variety of portrait sessions we photograph, and its helps us become more creative as we go! We opened our own studio in October 2015, which is located on Main Street in Johnson. We are professional members of PPA (Professional Photographers of America), VPP (Vermont Professional Photographers) and PPANE (Professional Photographers Association of New England).

 

 

We strive to create images that are unique to clients, yet have a classic, rich look to them. We want clients to look back twenty years from now, and still love their images. Having our own studio gives us the creative ability to customize sessions for clients and create images they will love for a lifetime. We offer products in our studio that many clients haven’t seen before, including printing on metal and wood, and soon we will be starting to offer jewelry. Our style is classic, yet creative in that sense, and we want our clients to choose products that describes their style too.

 

 

Seeing how our clients respond positively to their finished images is inspiring. It continues to motivate us to try new techniques and think outside the box, while still holding true to our style. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful state to where we can find unique locations based on the client’s needs, and be creative with that. We continue to challenge ourselves in that way. We also continue to educate ourselves by attending workshops, conferences, and conventions throughout New England and the country to learn from the best photographers in the world. We bring that back and best incorporate those concepts into our own work.

 

 

There are really no specific locations for us. We really want to capture what the client would like, whether its a walk through the woods, on a back road, walking around Main Street in Stowe or downtown Burlington, Vermont just offers so much for us. Summer and fall are absolutely beautiful here, and we enjoy spending that time outside with clients to make the most of their session.

 

 

The best part of our job is knowing we are helping our clients create memories they can look back on. Because we are both family, we want to connect with our clients in that way too, to give them the best photographic experience possible. We know photography is an investment to our clients, so we as well, want to invest as much time as we can to create a piece of family history for them, and are honored to be a part of that.

 

My photography is inspired by the people with whom I work. It’s inspired by relationships, both the ones that I build with my clients personally as well as those that I am incredibly privileged to be witness to as I capture special moments in their lives. I absolutely love seeing the photography process unfold. From the first moment that I have contact with someone, we begin to build a relationship. In a short amount of time, I am given a small glimpse into their lives. I watch people interact and I am able to observe these relationships first hand. I then use what I’ve gleaned about them to capture their stories in the photographs that I take. The moment of the actual shoot is the culmination of all the information that I have collected. Through the use of my camera, I am able to capture and embody who these people really are. It’s all such an amazing process. People and relationships are what photography is all about for me.

 

 

 My best advice for someone preparing a shoot with me is to spend some time reflecting on themselves and what they want their photos to convey. I love learning about people, and the photography process flows more smoothly when my clients are somewhat clear on the vision they have. I ask clients: What signifies who you are? My process is entirely collaborative and therefore I am as prepared as my clients are. I recommend that my clients think about bringing any props or clothing that might help to tell their story. My clients bring the inspiration, and I bring the technical skills to capture that.

 

I have been an amateur photographer for as long as I can remember. From a young age, I always carried a camera with me. I have always loved portrait photography and would capture moments with friends and family throughout my life. From film photography to the current technology, I have enjoyed seeing the art progress through the years. I have been practicing as a professional for the past decade.

 

 

I would say that my photography best described as portrait journalism. It’s a combination of portraits and lifestyle photography. I bring forth the technical skills, such as offering the correct lighting and environment, but then I step back and allow the stories to unfold. I am very laid back in my approach. My aim is to make it easy for people to be themselves in front of my camera.

 

 

Being a photographer allows me to wear many hats and I love that dynamic. There is so much emotion that goes into a photo shoot, and it’s my job to capture that feeling as well as contain it. Depending on the event and the situation, I get to act as a therapist, coach, and sometimes an educator. I love the challenge of managing different personalities and getting to know people. I love learning about the different communities and areas that I am privileged to visit. Photography helps me to feel that I am involved in something much bigger than myself.

 

My absolute favorite place to shoot is Shelburne Farms. It goes without saying that the farm, impeccably groomed, is a gorgeous setting. From the tree-lined roads to the fantastic views of Lake Champlain, Shelburne Farms is a photographer’s playground. There are magnificent rock formations, stone walls, and beautiful barns. It’s an easy place to shoot, as well. People can drive directly to most locations, and because it is very private, it allows for a very private shoot. The folks who run the farm are so gracious and welcoming and the fact that they allow me to use the farm after hours for these events is a bonus.

 

 

The best part of my job is getting to know the people and the community where I live. I love Vermont and the culture that embodies it. I have the fortunate job of traveling around the state and seeing beautiful areas that I would not likely otherwise explore. I have gotten to know such amazing people through my work, and I am so grateful to be offered that opportunity. When I walk away from a shoot and hear people say, “Wow, that was a lot of fun,” I know that I’ve done my job well.
